Mobile Chip Repair

FAQ's

Do you replace windscreens?

Currently, Screensaver does not do windscreen replacements. Windscreen replacement is a completely different process to windscreen repair. The benefit of solely focusing on repair is that I will do everything I can to save your windscreen from needing replacement. This means I will take on more complex chips and cracks that other replacement companies wouldn't. Most companies will often recommend replacement even if the damage is repairable so that they can get more dollars out of customers. This not only costs you more money but also sends another windscreen to landfill unnecessarily. While I will take on complex chips and large cracks, some damage is simply unrepairable and I will always recommend replacement when necessary.

How long does a repair last?

I use the highest quality tools and resins to ensure that any repairs will last the lifetime of your windscreen.

There is a misconception that repairs are a temporary measure to stop the chip getting worse until you can get a new windscreen. This is not the case. The tools and techniques I use are designed to not only stop the damage from spreading but also hide the damage as much as possible so that it is almost unnoticeable.

Using high quality resins means that over time the repair will not deteriorate or discolour so that you can rest assured your repair will stand the test of time.

Do you have a workshop?

Currently Screensaver is a mobile only service.

As we grow and expand, we may open an auto glass repair shop so stay tuned!

Is my chip/crack repairable?

Due to the tools I use, almost all chips whether big or small I can repair. Other companies won't repair chips over a certain size or if they are to close to the edge etc. This is due to the type of tools they use and the limitations that come with them.

While nearly all chips are repairable, factors such as age of the chip, moisture/debris inside chip and type of chip will affect the cosmetic appearance of a repair. For the best looking repair, get it done as soon as you can to avoid it being contaminated with dirt or moisture.

I will repair cracks up to 14 inches. Crack repair is quite an involved process and is influenced by many factors. If you are unsure whether your damage can be repaired simply fill out my online form submission and I will let you know if it is repairable.

Should I drive with a chip or crack?

The easy answer is no.

The only way to be certain a chip will not spread is to not drive your car until it is fixed. However, this is not always practical so booking in your repair as soon as possible is the next best option.

The likelihood of a chip cracking out is influenced by a few different factors:

Hot weather - glass expands causing air trapped in chip to cause crack outs

Bumpy roads - flexing of the glass due to bumps on the road can cause a sudden crack out

Location of chip on windscreen - chips close the edge (especially when on the black part called the Frit) will almost always crack out very quickly due to the windscreen holding most of its tension at the edges. These need to be fixed asap with driving kept to a minimum or none at all until repaired.

It can be tempting to leave a chip alone but it will only turn into a more costly repair or end up needing replacing.

Is a Chip/Crack Repair Invisible

The visual improvement of a chip or crack repair is impacted by a number of factors. These include:

~ Age of the damage

~ Size of the damage

~ Contamination (road grime, dirt moisture, cleaning products)

~ Type of damage

In general a successful repair should see a visual improvement of around 70-90%.

For best results, always get damage repaired as soon as possible and if possible cover the damage with tape/chip saver to keep any contamination out.
